Heya guys. Ok, so I have been pondering about what new fish to get in my 55 gallon reef. I have recently upgraded to a 30 gallon refugium/sump, and now I would like to get another fish or two. I have various corals, 2 b&w ocellaris, and a sailfin blenny, along with a cleaning crew of blue legged and scarlet hermits, and a few astria. I am thinking about either a yellow eyed kole tang or a dwarf lionfish, but would like some input from some more experienced keepers.

I did some research, and a few people out there were saying that a 55 would suffice for the tang. So I guess that is my main question. Will a Kole really be fine in a 55?

Thanks as always...cheers

IMO 55 is too small for any tang and the minimum size for a lion. If you go with the lion... you may end up without the blenny and perhaps even the clowns.

A 55 to too small IMO. Not enough room to swim. It may be enough to "suffice" but not to thrive like they should.

You could do a tang but it would have to be a really young juvenile and the mortality rate of them is way to high IMO to risk it.

Alrighty then...I guess I'll stear clear of the tang. Oh well...someday I'll have a tang worthy tank . For now...Looking into more options that are better suited for my tank. Any suggestions?

I just got an arrow crab and a young green emerald crab yesterday. I'm thinking about a skunk cleaner shrimp now. Just got a few bucks so I'm in research new critters mode...muhahaha.

A Kole tang would be ok in a 55 . I would go with a Tomini tang in that size tank as a better choice and IMO a better looking fish. Not just for swimming room as I'm not sure what they need but more for area to graze as they will do it all day long. They are a little smaller tang that most all the others.
So far as ich goes if you let that scare you then you should not put any fish in the tank without first quarantining.
