Hello arc I have a koran angel that has a cotton like spot on it fin i saw it a wee ago all of my perms are ok just did a 20% water change a few days ago I think it's stress related he's kinda timid and all of my tangs are ok any suggestions
P.s I don't have a qt

Unfortunately it sounds like a fungal infection to me. Its impossible to know without pics though. If you don't want to lose the fish and others I would highly suggest removing the fish from your DT. The fish will need to be treated in a QT and you should watch the other fish you have (especially any tangs) to make sure they do not get sick as well.

Its important to try and take some pics that will help a lot.

How long have you had it?

Fungus is rare in saltwater - the salt inhibits it.

Angels, especially newly brought in from the wild, frequently show Lymphocystis. What you describe - cotton-like, on a fin, is pretty typical presentation.

It's viral, not usually harmful unless it's on the mouth and impedes ability to eat. Leave it be. It won't hurt anything, and once the fish settles in and its stress level subsides, it will go away on its own.

A photo would help, but I'd bet that's what it is.

I forgot to mention I had a clown fish a few mths ago got sucked into my canister due to my cover came off and he had a similar spot on his fin as well but his spot seemed to spread down his fin and started causing him problems

That's not likely related.

How long have you had the angel?

2 months he's been fine eating well just a lil timid maybe my tangs or clown fish is picking on him anything I could do I love the fish I'd hate to see his symptoms get worse ill try to get a picture of him in a few

What size tank? What all do you have in it? Please also post parameters etc.

Lymphocystis is brought on by stress, so there are a number of potential causes.

The Lymph itself shouldn't be life-threatening but the stress that's causing it is of concern - the symptom is your red flag.

55 gallon... and you mentioned "tangs" - plural. What all do you have in the tank? And how big is the Koran? I hope you're aware that they get BIG... way bigger than your tank can accommodate.

Tangs do too.

I'm thinking over-stocked here...

Jenn I my 125 gal is has cycled I I'm removing two tangs sailfin and regal tank to the 125 that has 3 chromis

No flames here - I'm here to help :)

You're over-stocked, in my opinion. One small tang in a 55 ... at best - keeping in mind that it will likely outgrow the tank. 3 is a recipe for disaster, never mind the angel. The sailfin and yellow are of like body types and are likely to fight. If they haven't or aren't, consider yourself lucky and go buy a lottery ticket :)

The ocellaris clown and dragon goby aren't of big concern. Clowns can be pinheads, but other than that, you're good.

The Mandarin is a dragonet, not a goby - unfortunate mislabel that seems to happen everywhere. How much live rock do you have in this tank? And do you supplement with live copepods? (How long have you had the dragonet?) It's a good candidate to be moved to the larger tank when it's ready - and because that tank is not mature, you will likely need to supplement live foods for it, or it may starve.

I'd venture that the Koran is stressed. You haven't mentioned the sizes of these fish - tangs/angels. The Koran has the potential to outgrow even the 125.

How long has this tank been up and running?

Jenn

I guess I'm lucky because I haven't had any problems out of any of my tangs as for as live rock maybe 100lbs+ and plenty of copods to supply the dragonet and any other fish that loves pods (r2g) and yes jenn I removed two tangs today and placed them in the 125 which has about 150lbs of live rock and copods as well my 55 gal has been running for about 7 mth and the 125 around two mths

Well keep an eye on the Angel then and see if the removal of the tanks reduces his stress. In my opinion you've dodged a bullet, not having had more serious issues with that many busy fish in a smaller tank. They need a lot of space to feel comfortable.

Lymphocystis is a lot like warts - viral in origin, and brought on by stress, and they usually go away when the stress level subsides.
