Alright this might sound a little crazy and unrealistic; but I promise this trick really works. I love tangs, for some reason, so I tried to get multiple tangs in my 150 gallon. I have done this twice, and I was just sharing my experience with yall.

When you introduce a new tang into a tank, print off a picture of another tang (one that is not in your display tank) and tape the picture to the glass. All of the existing tangs in your tank will be very nervous about the printed picture of the tang, and not even pay attention to the new introduced tang. I would move the picture of the tang every couple hours or so.

Let me know if you try this, and I hope it works for yall too!

Been doing this for a few years now. If there is a fish that is at all aggressive in the tank, I do this for every fish addition. I print like 5-8 pics though and put them all around the tank.

Works great!

I'll have to try multiple pictures. I haven't thought of that!

What about using a mirror? I've heard that works well for catching fish, but not sure about distracting them while introducing another.

Yep! I have also read where you can point an oscilating fan at these images from a distance...and they appear to move!

I have heard this, but haven't tried yet. I am picking up a Powder Brown in a little while. He's a bit on the small side and I was concerned about how my Purple Tang will treat him. I printed off several pictures of tangs... put one on the tank as a test. The purple tang is no where to me seen... however, the other fish couldn't care less!

Thats really good to hear. Let us know how the addition goes! Good Luck!

I've used a mirror to do this with large cichlids. (freshwater) It works most of the time for me. And its funny to see how scared an aggressive fish gets when they see their own reflection.

I have also heard that you can put a picture of a clownfish in an anemone on the side of the tank if you have a clown that won't pair up with your anemone. Just heard this never tried it .

I introduced a powder blue to my 300 which houses a chevron, blonde naso, 2 regals, a purple, a red sea sailfin and a tomini tang. I taped up 5 powder blue pics to the glass but the sailfin, the purple and the chevron are pounding him anyway. He is eating but I don't know for how much longer.

Post up picks of the most aggressive tangs in there. Example- 5 pics of a purple if he is the most aggressive.

Got the powder brown (2.5") Friday. Introduced him to the tank and the purple tang (4.0") was all over him. I taped six pictures of other tangs around the tank (various types). The purple tang immediately went into hiding. After the lights went out I removed the pictures. The idea seems to have merit because there was no aggression from the purple on Saturday and all is well this morning.

This myth is confirmed!

I'm really glad it worked for you! I hate seeing a new addition in a tank getting picked on, because I know that fish has to be freaking out anyways.
