I have a Reef Breeders Photon 32 that seems to produce a more purple look than some generic ebay led boxes and I was wondering if you someone could enlighten me on which diodes are producing the more purple color?

From Reef Breeders site this is the breakdown on the Photon LED:

Channel 1
48 450nm royal blue

Channel 2
22 4500K neutral whites
10 480nm blues
4 660nm reds
12 410-420nm violets.

Channel 3; 3 480nm blue moonlights

The eBay box doesn't list the exact diodes but says:

There are 2 different dimming channels, controlled by knobs on top of the fixture.

Channel 1:
Cool white(10000-14000K)
Neutral whites(6500-7500K)
Warm white(3500-4500K)
Violet 420nm
Green 520nm
Deep red 660nm.

Channel 2:
Blue 460nm
Royal blues 450nm.
for a 14k output with both channels at maximum intensity.

The eBay box has a much crisper/brighter white look while the RB has a softer white look. Is it the cool whites in the eBay box that is causing that?

The eBay box is much more blue dominate while the RB maintains a more purple look; whats the difference there?

I prefer the RB look and was wondering if I can swap out some diodes to match the RB look...thoughts?

Thanks

Ok, cool.

So I counted 14 "white" diodes in the eBay box (it claims both cool and neutral whites but I can't see the difference in the pic - can you?) and so if I replaced those with 4k neutral white diodes it would then appear more like the reef breeders color?

Looking straight at the lense, yes. The beam is visually different.

So my eBay box has 14 cool white diodes then wouldn't you say from the pic?

Have many 4k whites would it take to remove most of the harsh cool white color I see? Or just replace them all with 4k whites?

Is the spectrum you're trying to achieve based of what you see in pictures? Reef breeders photograph as a purple tint. They won't look like that to your eye.

No, I have a reef breeders photon 32 over my tank and two eBay boxes. The eBay boxes don't match the color of the RB and that is what I was wanting to change.

Here they are now:

Are the eBay 3w led diodes good quality for the eBay boxes if I replace the cool whites with neutral whites?

These were really cheap @ $3.80 shopped for 10 3w diodes

Look up eco sun led lighting on eBay
These lights have great quality LEDs with 4 separate channel controls.
You couldn't build them for the price.

The purple color comes from the 450nm royal blues.
You can have them put more blues in and take out some white no charge.

Thanks but I'm looking for a good source to replace some of my existing diodes. Do you know a good place to buy them?

eBay is gonna give you the best prices. Get the cheapest ones. They are pretty much the same. You need to make sure weather they have bases or not

I would be curious to find out. I looked at them but the blue to royal blue ratio was backwards.
I paid the $60 more for some others. Still way too much white light for me.

I think ill end up running the whites at 50 and the blues at 75-80. If interested I can post pics once i put them up.[/QUOTE]

I paid $139 for the one I bought but will spend the extra $60 ($200 total) next time for the ones I referanced above.
Even though they are only 120 watt they run at 900-1000 milli amps compared to the Mars Aqua that run at 600 milli amps. Plus they are Cree LEDs hench more bang for the buck. When you top it off with 4 programmable channels.. Well. I guess having a Typhon led light controller for a while spoiled me.
