Hey guys, putting my 28 jbj back up for frags and I've narrowed it down to two fixtures;

Evo 1G

Reefbrite

I'm leaning towards the Reefbrite; I don't plan on housing tons of SPS, and I can create a rack right in the center high up for them. Mainly going to grow zoas and chalices.

Opinions, comparisons, and ideas are very welcome!

Edit: Oh, forgot a quick rundown from my research;

Evo 1G: The good: More Watts, more light, more PAR, been around longer. The bad: Don't like hanging fixtures, no separate dimmer for blue/white, less options, slightly purple tint..

Sunbrite: The good: Able to dim white/blue, preset spectrums, remote control, moonlights, sleek looking The bad: Not tons of PAR, average spread, borderline for keeping SPS super happy

Hmmm.

Do you know what the PAR levels are for the Sunbrite? I ask because I was running 2 Ecoxotic Panoramas over my 14g Biocube and the PAR on them dropped off pretty quickly, but I was able to grow Montis, Chalices, Acans, Zoas, and Palys with ease. The only corals that gave me trouble were Acros and they did not do that well(lost color/browned out).

My new setup allows me to dim the whites and blues seperate, but because I can't have my RKE do it for me I have just found a setting that I like and I am leaving it that way.

This guy does a PAR reading of the sunbrite;

Regarding the Evolution fixture-
FWIW- I have seen great PAR readings reported from a similar fixture.
<span style="font-family: Arial">2" depth - 1537 Par</span>
<span style="font-family: Arial">12" depth - 423 Par</span>
<span style="font-family: Arial">24" depth - 182 Par</span>

<span style="font-family: Arial"></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial">-You can build an enclosure/shelf, etc. to house the unit, without hanging it.</span>
<span style="font-family: Arial">-There are other models available that allow independant switching of the blue & white, but I have not seen any 'blendin' features on these type designs yet.</span>

Unfortunately I'm not exactly the greatest engineer, electrician, or craftsman, =( That fixture looks super nice.

Did you check out the Sunbrite Ich? Think it would be ok?

Here's my analysis-

The Evo fixture at 4.3 watts per gallon is overkill from an LED source.

The Sunbrite at 1.3 watts per gallon is just a little on the low side.

FWIW- I like to see around 1.5-2.0 watts per gallon from LED's. All the PAR readings I have seen seem to indicate this is a good 'Ballpark, although dispersion plays a BIG part as everyone knows.

Worst case, you have to add an Ecoxotic Stunner Strip or two to supplement the Reefbrite. The Evolution product is overkill for your application.-JMHO

Keep us posted. Good luck, -Bill
