Looking to upgrade lighting to support more livestock as I continue to grow in this addictive (and expensive!) hobby. Leaning towards LEDs, and starting to save now. I have a 150 gallon (6L x 2H x 1.5W) tank. Initially, my thought was to get two 36" fixtures, but now I'm wondering if three 18" fixtures would be better given the dimensions of the openings in the top of my tank frame.
The plastic "upper frame" has pieces that run perpendicular to the front glass approx. 20.5" from either side. These plastic strips are about 2" wide. If I run two 36" fixtures, the lens behind those strips will be rendered useless, right? Am I just splitting hairs here?
Finally, if anyone can point me to some reputable fixtures, that would be helpful. There's so much out there, especially Chinese. Not sure which way to go given the wide price swings. As a motorcyclist, I've learned to stay away from the Chinese, but not sure if that applies in this hobby. Finding mixed reviews on-line and don't want to spend $1,200+ if I don't have to.
Thanks!
