LED input

My finger is hovering over the mouse button which is hovering over the buy button for some Taotronics LED 120w 55 bulb LED 35 blue 20 white. They are 3 watt bulbs that are being ran at 2 watts for longevity so it says... Any thoughts before I invest the $340 on 2 of these buggers? Anyone using these currently?Thanks as always!

what size tank? from what i've found about them they are cheap chinese leds. i'd prefer to make a LED fixture or get a more reputable brand.

i have heard good things about them. I am considering them as well (prob just start with 1 of them for the frag tank or maybe a tank for the kids..)

They say that they will do group buys, volume discount. We should look into it!!!

Im buying 2 for my 75 i think I'll be the furom guinea pig.. Worse case i can sell them to some hippies on craigslist . Not knocking hippies lol

I would say that if anyone is interested, put up how many you would need here so we can get a basic count to see if it is worth it.. Price on ebay is $169.. so around there most likely.
Then we can maybe have the GB coordinator on here handle it? if not, I can..

Ive been thinking about switching to LEDs for some time now, but I have read that you have to supplement with T5's as well. Is this the case, or could I use one of these units on my 29 gallon by itself and be ok?

Where are you seeing these for $170? I can only find em for 200.

I have a 24 LEDs on my biocube running 3w each and no other lights. LEDs do not need any supplemental lighting.

I thing 2 would be to much lighting.

We had this discussion before - the common LED chips do not emit any light in the photosynthetically needed range of 400/420nm.
I attribute many LED failures to that missing spectrum / so either supplement with a UV source (T5, MH, VHO) or some dedicated UV chips in the mix - which are still rather pricey compared to the standard whites and blues...

I will tag along as well. I've seen people on ARC talking about LED strips and after seeing they are relatively affordable, I have been wondering if there is a specific brand/model people recommend.. I want to be able to add a strip to a 4x54watt T5 I have over my 55 gallon...

Cool. I did not know that. I would love to build some similar to the ones ecotech makes and will make sure to include some Uv leds when I upgrade tanks.

Look at the LEDs on Reeffiltration.com. I have been researching LEDs for the last few months and the reviews on the lights from reeffiltration have been really good. And for the price, you might want to take a look. I ordered 2 of the 200 Watters and they just came today. Really nice lights.
