I build led fixtures for my tanks and some extra cash every now and again and after doing some heavy research heres what I've found. Anything outside of royal blue, neutral white, and true/hyper violet is purely for looks/asethics. Neutral white is a must because at it's 5000k temp rating it supplies all the red and green spectrum needed for growth, hence why all LED users are now switching from cool white (10000k) to neutral white. Royal blue is the most important blue due to it's spectral output. And true/hyper violet (not UV) is suppose to be the spectrum that really boosts coral growth since it's the only spectrum that royal blue and neutral white don't hit that other types of lighting does hit such as t5 and MH. According to the LED guru's and research I've done that's the simplified way of putting it. And if your LED fixture claims that it has UV led's it is more than likely true/hyper violet since true UV led's would be detrimental to your reef and wouldn't boost coral growth or coloration in the slightest bit. Most companies market the true/hyper violet led's as UV led's so rest assured you wont kill your coral with a fixture that claims to have UV led's. But basically, running neutral whites, royal blues, and true/hyper violet led's is the best way to ensure coral growth and coloration. Red's and green's are mainly for looks but if your led fixture runs cool whites then they are beneficial to growth/coloration since cool white led's dont have the warmer color spectrum such as the neutral whites. That's my 2 cents, but with my full spectrum led's I have great coloration on all my corals and great growth on all my corals, but it's to early to tell the growth of my acro's since they are new to the tank. But everything else is growing great that's been in there for a long while. It does take a long time for chalices to get use to the high par though, slow acclimation of 3% increases in power every week seem to do the trick along with low placement in the tank.
