I want to switch from Halide to LED on my 24 gal biocube. I have been out of the hobbysince the LEDS came out how many of what color LEDs should I put on this tank? Its about20 inches square...I am not afraid of DIY kits and I could build a hood but it'sthe number and how many of what type that I don't know about

I would suggest MM LEDs and Haninja is selling some at the moment at a good price. They have been pretty good for me and the price for you get is very good. The only thing that worries me is it may be to much light for that size tank. I personally have just set one up over a 34 gallon solana so we'll see how that goes.

I put a mm led on my bio cube 29 and it worked awesome. Kept everything on the sand

Yeah. I kept 3 clams and about 15 sps on the sand and it grew great.

It has no hood tho...just the halideon legs so...no hood to retro into

EShine has a unit made specifically for those. 12x3 watts. I'm placing an order now that you could get in on. Unit would be $62 plus shipping and handling but I need to know now before the order goes in.

i did a DIY led for my frag tank and it grows SPS great, and colors a great.
we are looking at doing leds for our 210.
do not go with the MH, to much power and HEAT.

It's interesting to compare halide vs led. I was at my friend's house today and compared a frag that he bought of ORA frogskin. I bought one, the same size, a week later. His frag had grown into a beautiful colony. Mine is just now starting to grow. Any chemistry differance aside, his grew 10x faster.

Both frags were purchased about 10months ago. Mine started growing very very fast from the beginning... And then slowed over time. And then stopped. After switching salts it finally started growing again, but no where near the speed of his.

Edit: With that being said, a lot of my corals grow fast, but I can only imagine how much faster they would grow with halide
