Hello,
So here is a little about me and what I have been up to. So it all started last Valentines day when I went into an Aquarium store to get my girlfriend a Betta for Valentines day and that's when I got hooked. I was blown away by all the different corals. Four hours later and two hours late, I finally left the store to deliver my Valentines gift. So I gave her the Betta and tried to explain why I was so late, she wasn't buying it until a few days later when I took her to the store. After the four hours in the store and talking the ears off every employee I decided I wanted to give it a go. So that's when the project started. I searched craigslist and found a ninety gallon tank and decided to build the stand and sump to go with it. So here are some pictures of the project.

Edit: So I decided to have the door completely removable so I could remove the sump that i made out of a thirty gallon tank that I picked up from an Aquarium store that was going out of business.

Still have to make a canopy but I think its coming along pretty good. Also included a picture of the little guy that started it all, $12 fish to a thousand dollar hobby. Oh well I think its worth it. :)

Thanks, It's a work in progress. There are still some more things I would like to do and get for it.

Welcome to the club. I just joined a few months ago and it's great to see how helpful the community is around here! It looks like your set up is off to a good start.

Thanks

I agree, everyone has been very helpful and also reading all the old threads has tons of information as well. I had a chance to talk to some of them in person at the coral expo which was really nice and once again everyone was extremely helpful.

Thanks, It really is nice to have a place like this where one can get advice from people with tremendous amounts of experience knowledge.

I just ventured into Jefferson earlier today to meet another reefer. We aren't too far from each other. Stand looks great!

Thanks,

I noticed that too, next time your in the area and would like to check it out just let me know. I always like input from people with more experience than myself.

Sure thing! You are off to a good start. The initial cycle will feel like forever for you, but I'm sure we will be swapping frags in no time. I've got my frag tank up and running and I'm growing some stuff out now, so whenever you feel like you are ready let me know and I'll toss a free frag your way. My way of saying welcome to the hobby, and the ARC

Welcome!! I'm not in SW yet but working on it.

Your sump looks like you took a 29G and used a 10G as a refugium inside. I'd like to see a little better/bigger picture of your sump. It looks pretty good.

It is a 29 gal tank that I put baffles in to separate the different compartments. I did a lot of reading and research and decided to go with that particular set up. First picture is when I siliconed the glass into place, I used wood blocks for spacing. The second picture is a larger file size of the sump in the stand. You should be able to click on it to enlarge it.

You are right. The 2nd set of pictures you posted show up larger & very easy to see what you have done. Very nice DIY job!!!
