Lets talk anemonies

I have had general experience with owning them before and had limited experience with feeding them. Is light photosythesis and the occasional little piece of frozen food here and there enough to keep them happy?

Or do you really news to feed them on a regular basis to keep em growing?

I've tried krill before with some success although I think I had a lot of issues with water quality back then.

I feed one silverside to my RBTA about every 7-10 days. Aside from that, it stays fat and happy and is in the process of splitting. I've had it for about a year now.

I used to use krill but been using silversides lately and I can see the difference in growth with silversides. I feed twice a week. It will grow with just light. Just a slower.

i feed mine with mysis blown through a syringe twice a week and a silverside if im not feeling lazy

I don't feed my nems, but that is intentional. If mine get bigger, I'd have to relocate them. I've had both of mine over a year, and they are loving life. Im sure they catch some PE mysis when i feed.

Why do you feed a saltwater animal a freshwater animal (silverside)? Seems like there could be better alternatives... I feed my nems sliced whole shrimp and mysis

When it quits moving for a couple days it should be settled in. Every anemone is different. Sometimes they roam for a hour sometimes a week.

Mine moved under the rock when I our him in his spot 2 days later he was settled I. Right back where I originally put him and has been there since

My RBTA started out loving silversides but my GBTA never really took to them. After a couple months the RBTA just didn't seem to devour them any longer. Laterly, I have just given them a squirt of frozen when I am feeding the tank. May try the silversides again and see how they do.

Silversides have long been speculated by way of popular opinion to be detrimental to Anemones. If there is any merit to the claim my bet would be the food fed in relation to the animal eating it rather than fresh vs saltwater. With no real evidence to the contrary I have stopped feeding them or at least stopped feeding whole silversides. As with anything in this hobby opinion is formulated without any real conclusive data. Due to other foods offering the same nutritional value with little to no reports of problems I find other alternatives to be the best and safest route.

Silversides are salt water animals... They come from cold water, therefore they have a lot of fatty acids.

Edit: It's probably not what nems feed on in nature.

Funny...mine seems to catch the flakes or pellets I feed the fish.

Mine doesn't like silver sides. I give him pellets and frozen food when I feed the fish. I never really go out of my way to feed him. Just try to make some food sink down to him.

I've had the same anemone since 2004 and have had it split naturally only a few times.

I used to directly feed them mysis and also krill. Right now I am not feeding them since I have so much fauna (pods, etc) in my system.

For a couple of weeks my RBTA just didn't seem to be doing all that well. Today I found out why. It has split. Got to love it. Maybe in a week or two, it might pay for some of the rock I need for my upgrade to the 125. About time this critters started paying their own way. hehehehehe

I find that anemones growth is proportional to how much you feed it. If you are really banking on your nem to split, I would suggest feeding it frozen meaty foods twice a week. I feed a half cube of frozen mysis shrimp per anemone, and it has worked great for me!
