I have a lot of interest in kalk and its buffering capability .
I'm currently dosing cal & mag daily 3mg cal & 3.5 mag.
This keeps my calcium about 380-410average before I dose and my mag drops down to 1050-1100 daily before dosing.
This system is tiny a 29g Biocube roughly 22-24 gallons after rock and sand .
The only day I never seem to need doseing is Monday , because I do a 5G water change every Sunday.
I have a bottle of kalk I got in a box of dry goods from jef4y a wile back so I already have it
But without adding equipment is it effective to dose with.
A lot of what iv read on it says it requires multiple doses throughout the day thus the reactor.
Is there any safe way to dose it on a small system.
I'm in no hurry to overdose my tank .
If it were your cube would you attempt to use it and stand ready with the test kits ?if so where would you start , I know I'll need to mix up a gallon+ at a time and iv read it won't keep because the cal and mag bond and fight one another rendering them useless .
I have read where ppl put it in top off water , this sounds like a bad idea for many reasons the main being I can't control the potency and evap fluctuates but because I have a lid its not more than a quart a day so it would need to be a high ratio due to the lack of fresh coming in compared to an open tank.
Not to mention it looses its strength over time.
Is it worth trying this on a small system or am I just inviting an accident.

either do water 30% water changes to keep up with any use, or set up a 2 part....

forget kalk....on a system this tiny....imho

That's what I more or less thought , but iv been staring at the bottle for a wile and had to ask.
Thankyou for your input.
It's not as off doseing is difficult or time consuming.

+1 to this.

If your demand is there I say go for it. But you will need a controller or timers that can be controlled by the minute

its all about what your corals consume and unless you have a tank packed with clams and fast growing sps i wouldnt worry about it unless you dont do water changes as often as you should.
