lighting for a 24 x24 x 18

so what do yall think? I wanna try to have a mixed reef. i'm going with some LEDs for my 24 x 24 x 18 tank. and my options are a 17.5 inch one, or a 23.5 inch one. at first, i was thinking about getting the 23.4 inch set. but then i got to thinking, that some corals don't need that much light so maybe i should go with the smaller ones. and then stick the corals that need good lighting in the middle of the tank, leaving room for less lighting corals on the outside.

does that sound like a good plan?

Sounds fine, as that would only leave 3.5" on each end. Which LED fixture are you going with? The quality of that is more important than the length.

I have a similar sized aqua pod and I went with three 21w par38 bulbs, price was decent and I installed them in a 3 head flexible lamp so I can move them around and highlight what I want

Solved the noise and heat problem with this setup too not to mention power bill savings, next year I'm switching the RSM to led, technology was not right there this year

so if i did go with the larger 23.5" fixture, would it prevent me from being able to get corals that didn't require so much light?

Not necessarily, you'd just need to take care to acclimate them properly.
