I am building a 100 gallon hex front aquarium and I need some suggestions for lighting. What size and type. Newbie to the hobby and only have experience with my nano cube 29 led. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,
Bill

how deep will the tank be? 30"?

Edit: oh and will you be keeping corals? If so what type? or is it a FOWLR system ?

Well I would think with a hex you'll need a pendant, or have a fitted hood made for a retrofit.

at 24" I'm not sure I would venture into LED IMO. So... that puts you deciding whether or not you want to go halides. 250w would be plenty at that depth.

on the other end of things you can go T5. The thing about t5 is that you need a GOOD setup with active cooling individual reflectors and such to get the most bang for your buck.

I'm not sure that I understand that term. Is it a 'hex' (6 equal sides), or some other shape?

Dimensions in length x width x height too please
(where length is longest horizontal dimension, width is short horizontal dimension, and height is vertical dimension)

Hex front,
Means three front panes, two side panes and one back pane...

Ahhh...

I was thinking a 'hex front' could mean six equally segmented facets across the front too. I guess I never paid attention to them (too exotic for me, I just like rectangles, or squares).

In that case 3 x of Robb's LED's should do it, or 3 x 250 watt MH's.

I guess T-5's could work, but @ 24 inches deep might be their limit (or need 8 banks), especially if doing SPS corals on the bottom.

It all depends on what you want to do in the tank, corals wise, -jmho.

Robb's LEDS? Does he make them or is that a brand name. Sorry new to the forum and reefing in general....

And if you go with MH I have 3 400 watt MH fixtures for sale that would work great on your tank.
