I have a 10Gal tank that I originally purchased as a quaranteen/hospital/emergency tank and all I've used it for so far is to cure live rock and once I needed it when my 24G AP had a leak and I needed to drain it. I'm thinking about using it for fragging mushrooms and zoos so I need better light than I have but am not looking to spend a lot of money. I'm thinking about the 20" 80W Current Dual Satellite Compact Flourescent that DRsF&S have on sale. Has anyone used these and what do you think about them? Are there alternatives that you have used that I shold consider? Thanks for any and all help.

I love Coralife Fixtures but thats all I've ever had. I have had the 20'' fixture and it worked GREAT for 2 years on an all mushroom tank. I would Highly recommend it.

I really think you should look at the 70w or 150w Sunpod. That fixture you are looking at isn't bad either. What corals do you want to keep?

I ran that exact fixture on a very successful LPS/SPS softie 10gal tank for about 8months with great results. It's on my sump now for Cheato and produces great results. One thing, though--the fan is a must on a tank that size, and it works great, but it's a bit loud until you get used to it and tune it out.

Thanks for all the inputs!

I'm only going to use it for xenias, mushrooms, zoas and any other low to moderate light corals. My main tank is just a 24G AP with PCs so I hate taking up room in it trying to propagate or frag corals and will only keep corals in the 10 Gal that would be viable for my 24 Gal.

Fan noise won't be an issue since that tank is in the laundry room where I do all my water mixing and store tank supplies.

if that is the case, the PC light will work fine for you. I would not waste the money on a halide for the 10 gal.

I second what Brandon has said, go with the PC's because eventually you will want a bigger tank. Save it for the real deal!

I third what AJ, Jesse, Brandon and Bryan said. Although the PC lights will produce just has much heat as the 70w halide, the PC fixture should cost less and it will be enough light for what you are planning to keep.

I have a 24" coralife lunar aqualight that I got about 3 1/2 months ago. It would fit nicely on the 10 gallon as the legs are adjustable inward. It would allow you to float the side with the pins in to allow the unit to shine into the tank without a dark side. It is 65W x 2. I paid about $175 for it and will let it go for $80. If interested, PM me. I live near 5 forks and ronald reagan
