I was browsing trying to find a small lighting system that could replace my PC lighting I have over my 7.5g nano right now.

I am using these lights right now which I really enjoy but I really want something more powerful to make my corals grow better and faster:

my question is they have this light:

and my tank is only 12" wide and that is 17" wide if I got the lighting would it look really stupid having that extra 5" of lighting or should I just not even bother?

I don't think it would look great. Check this light out. I had it on my pico and it was great, the intensity is comparable to a 150W metal halide but with no heat issues and much smaller.

7.5 gallon nano? I'd go with LED or seems like you're going to have a heat issues. That light on NanoTuners.com looks good, but I bet you could find something comparable, but cheaper.

I know Odyssea had an issue a few years back with catching on fire.. Not heating up and warping.. FIRE!

Seems it was a ballast issue and they corrected it.. I heard also though that their 250 watt units were only pulling somewhere around 150-175 watts..

They did improve on the ballasts and fire hazards. I think they now are closer to correct wattage. The older units (last year and older) either had to have new ballasts or 175w bulbs put in the 250w units to be safe and functional

Got ya.. Of course 100% of my experience is second hand when it comes to Odyssea.. Never had one or for that matter even seen on in person that I know of..

Just spewing things I have heard..

I have heard and witnessed what you are talking about. The company replaced the junk with better junk when it happened and then we junked the junk to upgrade it to something respectable. Russ ended up with the replaced replacement fixture and now it is lingering somewhere here on ARC.
Junkity junk junk

Read many more times of the same though. New stuff is supposed to be alot better out of the gate.

could u retrofit LED's on it? I want to get a biocube or nano cube soon and do an LED retro also.

hey guys I might have found my lighting upgrade check these out:
My tank is a 12x12x12 and I would assume that one of these strips would be more then enough for my tank size.

But what I could also do is put two of these strips on my existing lite to make it even better and be able to do sps:

Yes to the first option listed
I just added one to my 12g Aquapod and it is doing awesome(variety of corals but no sps). The color and growth is great and all of the corals open up to the single LED strip as well if not better then the stock PC lighting. The price at first for me was a tad much but I'm already considering another one especially considering the lifetime of the LED's compared to the PC lighting I had.

oh yeah, http://www.atlantareefclub.org/forums/showthread.php?t=38959&highlight=ecoxotic">http://www.atlantareefclub.org/forums/showthread.php?t=38959&highlight=ecoxotic</a>

this is what made me decide to go with that light

Im also thinking about going with this:

http://www.nanotuners.com/product_info.php?products_id=623">http://www.nanotuners.com/product_info.php?products_id=623</a>

I've heard really good reviews on this and its 20 bucks more plus it fits into any standard lamp socket.

If you go with the Ecoxotic you could just hustle up 575 and get it from Jenn... instant gratification.

Mhm I have read good things of those as well and considered one for my nano but wanted something that I could mount into the stock aquapod hood easily

I just noticed this was only going on a 7.5g so whatever you choose will light that up very well :D
