contemplating the most effective way to preform water changes, The Liter Meter option sounds like the best way to go. Small water changes each day:thumbs:, Then do a large water change monthly or bi monthly and vacuum detritus from the bottom of my frag tank etc.. So does anyone have a Liter meter? how do you like it? Im very aware of the price. My other option is going to be a few plumbing modifications so i can direct flow in the main return line with ball valves, basically pumping 44 gallons out, and 44 gallons of new back in. Other than catching the water coming out in a trashcan, is there any other way to measure the outgoing water?

FWIW, i have mine set up like your 44 gallon method, i drain about 30 gallons out via plumbing and it goes out the front door then with a long hose, i pump the new water in from the laundry room...

On mine I have a 120g dt and 120g sump .i use 2 - 44g brute trash cans to mix salt water. The first time I used 5 gallon buckets to take 40 gallons out and put a mark on my sump. Now I can pump out 40g and turn a valve to gravity feed 40g -80g of salt water back in to my sump. I think going to put a 60and 80 gallon mark incase i need to do a big water change one day.

cool, i have the whole process pretty streamlined as it is now, i have two brute trashcans on casters in the garage with my sump, frag tank, and ro unit, i have one filled with freshly mixed salt water, i have a submersible pump that i attatch a garden hose to, i pump out 44 gallons out of the sump into a brute then pump back 44 gal of new, but im just tired of dragging hoses around and fooling with the pump, so if i decide not to buy a liter meter ill make the plumbing alterations so all i have to do is turn a few valves and then empty the brute!
