Live Rock

I'm getting closer to purchasing live rock for my build. I'm still probably a week out but wanted to get a little information on good/bad LR. Is there any such thing? How do you know if the rock you're buying isn't infested with something I'd rather not have? If I'm adding ANY rock to my aquarium and then letting the aquarium cycle, will that take care of it?

Well buy from somebody you know and trust would be the first key. Some unwanteds, like aptasia and majanos can be seen. Personally, I would put whatever rock I bought in a holding tank and what it for a few days to see if anything "pops" up or out that you don't want. Beyond that, there's not much you can do.

I guess that's why I joined ARC. Being a "rookie" in this hobby leaves me with very limited knowledge of the people I can trust. I'm sure in the near future I'll have several contacts that are all extremely trustworthy. I have my LFS that I trust very much along with GrouperTherapy that's building my stand, so I know I have two!!!:yay:
