Look at this new LED light I just found!

Hold on to what you know about lighting....it may all change and change very soon! This comes from a lighting company that custom makes these to order. I restate....they CUSTOM make these to your application. We had them made to replace parking lot lights.

This bulb is 30 LED's, has a mogul socket and self regulates to the input voltage from 110 thru 480. Just plug and go. The first three pictures shows the bulb. The next two shows the bulb at full power and then at power up. It measures only 10" long and is 4" round. Then the last two pics show the experiment tank...a 65 gallon. The bulb cost me $136 but it doesn't get much easier than this to install. Note that I'm holding the bulb in the tank pic. The maximum off temp is 130 degrees but that was in a fixture, fully enclosed with a glass lense. It's also a little yellow because I believe it to be around 6500K for output but again, this company can certainly make them at higher kelvin.

Does custom mean that they could change the temperature and/or intensity of the LEDs? On the surface it sure seems like it could be the 'poor mans' way to move to LEDs.

They say they custom build to any specification. We had 5 built to replace the metal vapor bulbs used in our parking lot lights. I would presume they could make any configuration however the base unit would be the same.

Robb...I don't have a par meter so no way to take the readings.

Don't have much specific information on the bulb at the moment. What I do know is this particular bulb was designed to replace a 400w bulb that's 25-30 ft up on a pole. It will put light to the asphalt even at that height. It's made by a company called Bravo Lighting but I believe they are only available commercially.

Maybe some of the lighting guru's can scroll through the amazon offerings and be able to determine if any of them would be effective?

Couldn't tell you. I would suppose they can configure these any way you'd like. The one shown is the 30 watt version. They make a 60 & 100 watt version of the same bulb.

Now if they could make a full blue spectrum 100 watt and say two of the 100 watt whites...bet it would put out some good par readings...
