Hi everyone, I am a graduate student at GaTech and and am upgrading myself from my 10g to a 120g planted. One of the other students in my lab knew of this group so I figured I would check it out.

The 120g build is in progress, but I will be looking to stock it in about 2 months once it is completed and cycled. Obviously many on this board are marine focused, but where is the best fish store for freshwater fish? I live in Midtown and do not own a car, so the closer the better. I would like to avoid ordering fish online since it is very difficult for me to get home before the leasing office closes and my fish would be stuck overnight. Is there anything in the Midtown/Downtown region? If now, where is the closest with a decent stock?

Currently, I have been limited to Petsmart which is a half mile from my apartment. While I have no problem with them for picking up a bunch of $1 fish, they do not stock, nor do I trust them to stock more exotic species.

I looked at the sponsors listed as selling freshwater fish and the closest one was Petland Dunwoody, but that is still outside the perimeter...is there anything closer?

I'm not exactly close to you, but I have a large freshwater selection. I'm right next to the Gwinnett place mall. Feel free to call if you're looking for anything in particular. I can usually get it. 770-495-0540

Tater does stock the best exotic freshwater selection in Atlanta, for my money.

SEA also keeps higher end freshwater stuff, as does Creation Reef.

Guess I will have to make the trip at some point. I must say that I did not expect to have to go so far in a metropolitan area.

Most fish shops are out in the suburbs and beyond.... at least in the major cities I've been to. I've never been to LA nor Orlando however. I'd imagine those specific cities are a bit different.

You should just start a saltwater tank instead and save all the time and money since you'll come over to the dark side anyway. :)

Premier Aquatics is nowhere near Perimeter Mall. You may be thinking of Petland Dunwoody, which is close to Perimeter Mall.

I have a 180 FW community tank about 10 feet from my 465 reef, and I gotta say it is nice being able to buy fish for $3 each sometimes. Almost feels like they are free!
