I need to borrow one because this damsel has outsmarted me. I've tried everything from lights off to leaving net inside for a week with no luck.

I made one out of a plastic bottle. There are videos on YouTube.com although my damsels are too smart for it. Only way I was able to catch one was to put floating food in the water without net near it.
Lights out, mine sleep in between rocks. So no chances there.

Orlando, I spent the last month trying to catch my blue tang. A patience game for sure. I finally got her the other day. I had to train ALL of my fish to eat out of a net. I could have(and did) caught every single fish in that tank other than the blue tang. She finally got cocky after watching all of the other fish eat out of the net and decided to give it a try.

Whoa, that was a pitb huh? I bought some live brine today, so gonna try that in my trap and see if that will draw them in.

So Dylan, was it easier to catch it with the net or did the fish trap work? Mine always gets snagged on the rocks.

The fish trap was unsuccessful for me.

I just waited it out and was persistent with the net feedings.

I just can't find the time to do it. I get home from work and have to stand there for what seems hours. I did try the 2 liter bottle trap and only ended up catching my hermit crab.

I caught about 10 fish today in under an hour. In a 400 gallon tank! :-)

OK, I cheated, I took all the rock out first and there was only about 3 inches of water in the bottom of the tank. :-)

Orlando and Dylan, you should be glad you couldn't make it. Man what a work out. But the good news is, a great friend who was in need is now in a better situations so it was well worth it.

My net method only lasts about 10 minutes each day. When all the other fish have eaten the food out of the net, you just give up and try again the next day.

The blue tang never went in the net to eat, but she would linger waiting for one of the other fish to a get stuck in the net and knock all of the food out.
This was good because the fish we comfortable with the net, but eventually became a problem because all the fish were so eager to get in the net, it was hard to target just one.

You can borrow my trap! Give it a shot. It worked for a few of my wrasses(that I wasn't trying to catch).

here's how I got my Talibot....& Yellow Tang that you murdered (just playin'), I believe, don't quote please, lol.

Traps do work for some fish...put food in that they like, it will work for some.

You might need 2 people, albeit I did it by myself.

Buy netting for like bait fish, but just the netting....flexable.

I emptied 1/2 tank of water, but that is optional. You could take out some water to help.

You can figure out the logistics of whether you cut it in pieces, or just fold it out, but basically, you make your tank smaller, & smaller netting over sections of your tank and your fish scurries outside the net until it's in a small space.

Ralph, that would definitely be most effective, that is how I caught the first one. I have 2 of them. I just didn't want to go that route again. I didn't murder, I unintentionally OD'ed the tank with buffer.

Lol, just playing! I realize it was it was a random crash, sorry! I love you, man! Good luck!

Best trap I've seen is you take one of these:

Drill a hole in the cover and tie fishing string to the lid. Put food in it and when the fish go's in it pull the string to close .

Use shock and awe....with lights out and all the fish asleep, turn all lights on. They will come stumbling out. You can catch em in the first two minutes easily.

I've heard that, I've tried it, didn't work for me, however, I don't think I had everything as organized as I should have to make it work.

worth a shot, imho.
