Tank is 3 months old and I added two clowns a week and a half ago after tank cycle. 1 died two days ago and found the other dead today. Water levels are perfect except nitrates are between 10-20 but not that bad. The only thing I can think is that my air conditioner went out at the end of last week and has caused my tank temp to increase to low 80s but the firefish is doing great so I don't know what happened. I acclimated the over about a 2 hr period adding some of my water every 5 or 10 minutes. Anyone got any ideas?

Did you inspect the fish prior to purchase? or any diseases or signs of poor health upon accilmation?

Nope no wierd activity really and no spots. The first one that died was the healthier acting of the two and ate real well. The most recent one that died didn't eat as well but otherwise seemed fine to me. Both came from a sponser store also so I just don't get it unless they were still somewhat getting used to the tank and the temp change shocked them or something but I don't know. It's frustrating not knowing!

Some will give you store credit, if not by policy, then by good will with a quick death like that. Often with such policies you have to provide a water sample, so you may be outta luck there w the nitrites, but heck, you won't get it if you don't ask. Low 80s wouldn't cause their deaths from my experience.

Nitrites are 0 nitrates are around 10-20. I do weekly 20% water changes but it's been hard to get the nitrates below 20.

Does anyone know if it's safe to use gerber baby water for water changes?

Nothing jumping out at me there... Have you spoken to the dealer you got them from?

Were there any symptoms at all? It's very unusual for clowns to just die for no apparent reason. Temp of 80 shouldn't have been the problem, many folks keep their tanks at 80 +/-.

Didn't notice anything with the first one but the second one the night before he was hanging out close to the surface a lot until I cut the lights off. Not sure if that's a symptom or not. The firefish I got at the same time is doing great. Also as I mentioned before the second one to die didn't eat very well but the night before he died was the best I had seen him eat. The other clown was a pig.

Been watching my firefish today and his tail is constantly elevated. Could it be swimbladder disorder. He is still swimming and eating fine but I'm worried. Ow since I just lost the clowns.
