Low pH after installing a new sump??

RedEDGE2k1;388522 wrote: So check this out -- I borrowed Oz's Milwaukee pH meter this afternoon to compare with my ACjr probe. Here are my findings:

My pH probe in sump's return section (next to two Eheim 1262s) - 6.3
Oz's pH probe in sump's return section (next to two Eheim 1262s) - 7.74

My pH probe in an isolated cup of tank water - 7.8
Oz's pH probe in an isolated cup of tank water - 7.76

My pH probe in 10.01 cailibration solution - 10.1
Oz's pH probe in 10.01 cailibration solution - 9.47

My probe in my refugium (away from pumps) - 7.5

So...it looks like my probe is OK, just needed to relocate it. That's a relief!

I still don't get why my pH dropped from 8.0-8.2 to 7.5 after switching out the sumps. My alk is 11dKH and calc is 450ppm, dosing with a LM3. Any thoughts?

Dustin

As you saw from my system that probe read low and needed to be calibrated. It's also old.

I would also take both probes with the handheld and put them in the display away from any apparent sump influences. Just to make sure you're getting consistent results from the sump to the display.

You saw it read 7.7 in my tank and my ph is in the 8.2-8.3 area so I think your actual ph may be good. A new probe properly calibrated would be my next move to rule out old inaccurate equipment.

WOw, 2 years old is pretty old. Time to change it out Dustin!

The yellow probes are the milwaukee probes. Looks like they hold up really well though. Your results in the cup are pretty darn close.
