Those are nice reflectors..I would go with that since you already have them. Is there any reason why you want the lumen bright over the lumenmax?

Just in case you want to compare.

Supplement for what? Color? 20k is more than enough for color. The only time people use actinic to supplement is when 10k or 6k are too yellow or white. If you go with 14k Phoenix, you don't need to supplement at all. I don't have any on mine.

You can go Mogul based Radium 20k and have INTENSE blue. I have a 400 watt one of those in a Lumenmax elite pendant and 280 watts of actinics and can't even hardly tell if I turn all my actinics off. In fact, I pulled 2 of my actinics off completely.

The only disadvantage that I can see with DE reflectors is that you can't go with Radium 20k since they are only available as mongul (single end). Therefore you have to determine what direction do you want take with your tank. Do you want growth, color or both. In my case, I was concern with growth and color. So the best bang for the bucks is Phoenix 14k and they are available in both DE and Mongul.

Yeah, I had XM 15k on mine. It was the same color as Phoenix 14k but doesn't penetrate as much as the Phoenix.

20k gets a bad rap for not being good for coral growth sometimes. THis is a bit apples to oranges, but when I broke down my 28 cubes running 150w Phoenix 14k DE's and put them all into the large tank running a Mogul 400w Radium 20k, my corals went into a growth explosion. I'm sure it's the higher PAR values from pure wattage, in fact I had to remove my leather and few softies because they were cooking even on the sandbed, but the 20k is doing a fine job in the growth department. I'll probably use a 14k next time just to compare, but I've been thrilled with the 20k Radium.

Phoenix is a Japanese bulb

XM are Chinese. Personally I will never own XM again. I used to use them all the time. The last 15 I bought for the store, within 3 months 9 had color shifted and I had to replace them. I think XM changed manufacturers and the quality went down. They might have resolved that now.

I know they (xm) put out a statement a little while back saying they improved the 15's, but who knows when we will see them on the shelves. Probably after the old stock has all made it through

Im about to pick up a set of LumenMax Elites from Tim in a few weeks along with a set of radiums. waiting on my taxes to get back.

I've had a brand new Radium bulb and PFO Hqi ballast sitting in my garage for over a year now. I just fired it up last night and WOW! It's amazingly bright and a nice crisp blue. I had it running next to an XM20kk and there's no comparrison.

400w, btw

How much are the EVC? I sell 400 watt radiums for $70.

Thanks,
Tim

I think you can purchase EVC for $55-$60 online, but $70 for Radiums is killer.

$70=no brainer

radium all the way. No point dealing with the shoddy quality of the evc.
