Several months ago, I lost my male lyretail anthias during my tank move. It looks like my largest females is becoming a male. Her fins are becoming more elongated. My question is, will "she" fully develop male colors, or will "she" not turn into a "supermale" in captivity? Anyone had one make a full transformation in their tank?

I believe there all hermaphroditic but i herd when a dominant female takes the role of male shes not as brightly colorful as a original male.

Hmm what kind of time frame does it usually take? im sure its different but mine has the pointer on the head and def is the largest of the bunch but no change over the last 4 or 5 months...

From the time I actually noticed the change about 6 months but I'm not sure when it started.

This type of hermaphroditism isn't absolute. Social stimulating conditions need to be met. For example, harem densities, sexual competition, etc. You have to think that it is a very "costly" for these supermales to demonstrate such flamboyant coloration and behavior, so they will only do so when it counts (when they can breed).

To make a long story short, it may take a day or it may never happen. Conditions need to be right.
