That's awesome! I definitely know I want a mandarin so that is super helpful to hear
Nitrites or nitrates?I have seen lots about them! I should be done cycling hopefully today if the stars align. The nitrites have gotten down to 0.25 as of 2 days ago. Then I'll water change and re-test.
I was thinking of adding pods and phyto, because I want to get them growing and multiplying! If that's a bad idea, I will take the advice for sure.
Ammonia is 0. Nitrite has peaked and worked it's way back down to 0.25. Once it hits zero I was planning to do a big water change, then check all the things again. Wait a few days and check all the things again.Nitrites or nitrates?
Can you elaborate? I've been researching heavily into how to properly do everything before I bought a tank. If I am missing something, maybe I didn't elaborate or need to do something else? You don’t want to do a water change yet cause you’re missing the last part of the nitrogen cycle. I would recommend you go back and review it again so you’ll learn it.
It just depends if you’re talking about nitrites or nitrates. From the last couple post it seems like you’re talking about just getting out of the nitrites and not having nitrates yet which does not call for water changes yet. But now going off of your last post about actually having nitrates then yes you would be fine to go ahead.
Just making sure you were making water changes while in the nitrite phase cause it would delay the completion of your cycle.
I'm glad you are doing your research. Cause I did the bare minimum on research. LolSorry, I figured maybe you didn't realize I meant the Nitrites had already risen to around 5ppm and fell back down to almost 0. I did plan to wait a few days to make sure it still reads correct.
To ZapataInc, yes I chose to do a fishless cycle. So I started with a few good live rocks (~6mo old) and live sand. I've been seeding with pure Ammonia for my size tank+sump gallons. It's taken ~3 weeks, but I wasn't in a huge rush while I continued researching and wanted to do a fishless cycle.

It’ll be one of your favorite fish. They’re unique and different. Not to mention their camouflage colors. I had one with more of a bluish instead of the greenish color. Very peaceful fish. Just watching him swim around the tank lowered my blood pressure. So, so, peaceful. That's awesome! I definitely know I want a mandarin so that is super helpful to hear
You’ll want to stop in and see Simon @ Nemo Aquarium. Great selection and prices on livestock. Also put RIT from Atlanta Aquarium on your list. RIT’s customer service is exceptional and he will not sell you something you don’t need. And RIT’s selection of livestock is second to none. I could spend hours inside RIT’s Atlanta Aquarium in Duluth, GA.I'm from the Macon area. They aren't wrong, there is basically nothing. I'm planning a trip to ATL soon to visit a few shops.

It didn’t carry forward. “You also may want to include a clown fish or two.”My experience: Nemo’s in Duluth for livestock and RIT @ Atlanta Aquarium for fish, supplies, RODI water (bring you 5 gallon jugs, I did). That was my experience some years back.
If you haven’t seen a Dragonet in action; I’m sure Simon or RIT has them. If your tanks not ready, you can still check out the dragnets in action at a Reef Store. As others have stated, you’ll want to establish the pods or the Dragonet will stave to death.
You also may want to include a fish or two. Everyone loves a circus. I also had a six line wrasse. They can be a little aggressive in my experience, but I also enjoys watching him swim around the tank. Not to mention his awesome colors.

I prefer tank-breed clowns. They are pretty hardy. The question that comes up is how many clowns should one put in a tank. That’s a million dollar question to some folks. I’ve always had two. Do your homework. Some clowns, cinnamon reds are more aggressive then the orange and white ones.Yeah I want to establish copepods before getting one, but I will pick one up down the road. I'll probably start with some clowns.
Have you ever picked up anything locally? Any luck? I know there is one store in Perry that has some saltwater, and Noah's Ark in Macon. That's about it.

Yeah I would like captive bred clowns. I dont want cinnamond because of the tendancy to be aggressive. Maybe the classic or white and black. I think I qould do 2.I prefer tank-breed clowns. Some years back, I had some aptasia get in my tank. I went to Noah’s Ark looking for some shrimp to take care of the aptasia. I ask the clerk several times if the shrimp for sale would eat aptasia. He went to the back and ask the other guy. I brought the shrimp home and he didn’t even look at the aptasia. It wasn’t a major purchase for the shrimp, but with that experience, I didn’t purchase anything else from Noah’s Ark. I just made the journey to ATL.
