I bought some chaeto a few months ago and it hasn't done so well. I still have it but as you can see in the pics it isn't full and healthy like it should be. When I got the clump of chaeto there was a small little piece of this red macro and since then it has basically over taken the refugium. I just took this pic after pruning the red macro, it was twice the size before I removed it.

I am not sure what type it is or if it is good to have in the fuge. I can't get the chaeto to grow and also have a tiny bit of caulerpa that hasn't really grown too much. Any suggestions? Should I remove the red macro and try to get the chaeto or caulerpa to grow?

That looks like red Gracilaria</em>. It can be used to feed herbivorous fish and for nutrient export as well.
