Mag 12 question

Not sure if this is the right place to post this or not....if not, feel free to move it please.

Does anybody know about the older Mag 12's? I have one and nowhere on the thing does it say anything about being submersible. Does anybody know if the older units (probably around 10 years old) were submersible as well as usable inline?

The reason I ask...I have one...it runs fine with two small exceptions....it produces microbubbles for some reason (not sure why) and the seal was bad so I used aquarium silicone and put the faceplate back on. I'm a little scared to run it inline so I'm thinking about putting it in sump....this would make me feel better and I think the microbubbles might be from drawing air when used inline.

I've seen a couple places in their literature NOW that says they are NOT RECOMMENDED to be used externally...


(so I think it's safe to say that their initial design carrys through to today.. intended as a submerged pump only)

They are submersible. I've been selling them for 9 years now, and they were submersible back then.

You can also buy new volutes (impeller cover) and they come with a new o-ring as well.

Thanks Jenn.....I tried the new cover and gasket. Didn't help. I've read on other forums that the Mag pumps are known for this very issue.

Yeah, they aren't my first choice for in-line, but they are for submersed applications.

I'm running three of them submerged, and have never seen a microbubble. I think you'll be fine!

If there are bubbles, it could be a leak in the plumbing that is drawing air. I've seen that happen.

Water won't leak out because the pressure of the water being pushed up makes it draw air in instead of leaking air out.

If you're getting bubbles, check your plumbing connections.
