Just went out for my skimmer. I use a sock so how long can I go with out skimmer running? Also any thing to do to get the mag running/ trouble shooting?

You'll be fine for a while, you just have to do water changes on schedule as you aren't removing stuff. Skimmerless tanks can work long-term; they just don't put up with slacking.

As for the pump, sometimes a cleaning will do it. I'd soak it in a vinegar solution. Once you get it to start, run it for a bit in the vinegar and then rinse well.

So just a fill a bucket of straight vinegar?

Half and half is what I normally do.

Also take of the front cover (I believe thats where the cover is) and make sure nothing is blocking the impeller from moving.

Be more specific about the pump issue. One, how old is it? Has the impeller ever been changed previously? What is it doing or not doing currently? This can be anything from a simple fix to just a flat out replacment. Which model is it?

Also check the volute (impeller cover) to make sure it's not cracked. That's the most common cause of failure in those pumps, and it's inexpensive and easy to fix.
