magnesium limits!

I was wondering what the max level magnesium should be allowed to get up to for a reef tank? i have been dosing kent magnesium heavily to kill bryopsis and tested recently and im up to like 4000!!!! everything is alive but is this even possible? Im thinking most likey my test kit is innacurate. thanks for the feedback...

I am no chemist but not sure that is entirely possible - what are your alk and Calcium at? these numbers could help you find out if the 4000 is real or not

alk is 9 and calcium 400. they have stayed consistent with the mag dosing. i know its way high regardless.

I don't think Mag will kill Bryopsis, doesn't it feed off lights? I don't know maybe I'm mixed up but I'm pretty sure you have limit your light source and stop feeding for a day, then limit the feeding and lights...

best case - you don't have to pull all the rock and scrub....

worst case - you're going to lose some serious corals and have to clean out the tank and start it over...

Some of the reef experts may disagree.. I'm a novice just my thoughts..

I'm curious to see the results, I've always heard (depending on how bad the case is) it would only suppress it..

Tech M kills it, but you have to use enough of it and keep levels high enough for long enough.

Did you skip part of the test kit? I know some require testing once with one solution, then again with another solution, and subtracting the numbers for the Mag level.

I had good luck about a year ago with killing off bryopsis using Kent Tech M. I raised to 1500 and in DAYS it literally started melting away. Took less than 2 weeks to clear my fields of green...

If your magnesium is high, the only way you're going to get it down is through water changes... and a LOT of them...
