I am just about out of Mg supplement (Kent's) which I purchased several years ago. I have noticed that many do not like it other than for bryosis control.
What do you like? I dose manuallly
My Mg is 950
My Ph, Ca, and Alk are all in range.
Do I have to dose Mg by itself? I have been doing that for years just as a safety precaution.

Thank you for reading and passing along any good advice.

Best,

Tony

Mg of 950 is way too low. Should be ~1350ppm. BRS magnesium works well, and it is cheap

I don't keep anything delicate in the tank, but i recognize the need to increase it.

I will give BRS a shot; I was hoping to find something locally.

Thank you.

brs is good sea chem is good also and can git local most liquid mag contains amonia

not sure what salt you are using, but most salts mix out with Mag below 1350. Seachem Salinity produces saltwater with Mag of 1350.. I use salinity and with 15% biweekly water changes maintain Mag at 1350.

BRS is good and easy. But, you can make your own with Epsum salt. I can shoot you the instructions if you like. (if I can find them).

epson is mag sulfate prolonged use leads to high sulfer levels sps seam fine but lps will suffer most mag sups are a mix of mag sulfate and chloride

wow did bill finally agree with me hell must of froze over did the world end andi didnt git the memo

I don't mean to hijack, but what about the use of magnesium chloride and no magnesium sulfate? What kind of consequences can come from that?

I have used the BRS magnesium, tech m, and de-icer(mag chloride)+epsom(mag sulfate) salts.

The de icer that I used was VERY dirty, I had to run it through coffee filters to pull out the sediment.

its th same effect just chloride will be highly elevated mag dosing is lke walking a tight rope no matter the form chloride or sulfate only about 1% of tis the supplament is magnesium 98% chloride and sulfer the last 1% is stuf you dont wont in your tank and that is regent grade. epson de icer magflake is industrial grade so levels of cobalt arsnic and other heavy mettals you still git the 1% mag but poison your tank at the same time. seachem
mag supplament in dry form costs me under $10 a monh and the purest form you can git off the shelf . kent mag is 30% amonia and is also the rason it kills bryo
raw elemental mag in 99% purity is around the same price per oz as palladium and obseanly hard to find

Yes, the article I read that had the instructions did caution about prolonged use. I did use it for little while but I made the jump to BRS. As little as I have to dose mag (never since switching to RSCP salt) the BRS was cheap enough to not make it an issue.

I have used Epsom salts for years with no visible impact on my system. With regular/ moderate water changes elevated levels of sulfur are not an issue.

Came across this awhile ago on one of those late nights when I couldn't sleep.
