I have Mandarin goby I believe red mandarin and has been in at least one of my systems for the past 4 years and recently I have been reading more of them what is exactly are the pods that are mention by other people that I have been reading about? Mine has been happy ever since i got him he is one of the hardiest fish I have and I guess I don't have these pods I heard about.
Any knowledge of this would be helpful

Thanks TJ

Pods = Copepods and Amphipods (little "bugs" of the reef tank), and their primary food source. And if your mandarin is fat and happy, it's very likely you DO have these pods you heard about.

Well then you are very fortunate. Most reefs won't have sufficient pods to sustain any dragonet species for an extended period of time unless you have LOTS of rock or seed the pods (like by purchasing), and lots of dragonets won't eat prepared foods.

do pods have any cons to adding to a reef system if not and if not to late i'll add some if it makes him happier

Nope, they'll eat detrius, uneaten food, etc, etc. Just another part of the clean up crew. They're also a tasty treat for wrasses.

thanks for the help I'll have to look at some "pods" the next time I go to a LFS

I know Tim carries a few different varieties, and I believe a few people on here breed them as well. Sparky, that was the member's name.

yeah I have plenty of porous LR in there that I think would be a great housing for Pods
