Mandarins in love? Or something else?

Today I bought a female green striped mandarin for my male mandarin that I've had for about a year. After I acclimated the female, I went to check on how they were doing and the male was latched on the female's pectoral fin. Is this normal? Is the male showing his aggression towards the female or is this a mating ritual?:confused2:
 
Sounds like he's just establishing dominance. Turn the lights off for her for the next day so that they are a little more calm
 
Yes, mandarin courtship is graceful and non aggressive. If what youre seeing can be seen as aggressive, its likely not good.
