Mangrove Advice?

Hey y’all!

After a year away from the hobby i’m restarting my 40G Innovative Marine. I’d like to do something different and put together a mangrove display tank and maybe a dwarf fuzzy lionfish. Does anyone know where I would be able to find mangrove propagules locally? I’d like to begin transitioning them to saltwater during cycling

I’m looking for unique suggestions to stock this IM15 AIO. I’d prefer to do oddball fish/invertebrates that are typically associated with mangrove forests in the wild instead of reef fish.

Some of my initial ideas were:

- Mantis shrimp species-only
- Pipefish + inverts
- Dwarf seahorses (would be challenging due to daily feeding requirement & college)
- Pistol shrimp-goby pair
- Upside-down jellyfish

Let me know what you think!

(Also yes the mangroves underwater are actually growing successfully. They should reach the surface in a month or so and will then sprout leaves...

Thread 'Will’s 10gal Caribbean Mangrove Mini Lagoon'

Just setup what will become my Caribbean Mangrove Mini Lagoon biotope tank this past Wednesday 4/9. Starting with 10 lbs live rock from Gulf Live Rock, substrate is about 1.5” Miracle Mud and 2” Arag-Alive. Those super purple and rocks are some rubble I seeded in my reef tank for a few weeks. Currently growing 3 mangrove propagules and a clump of halimeda. Probably will remove a good bit of this rock after the cycle, but 10 lbs was the minimum order.

As for hardware, tank is a 10g Landen AIO. Light is a Kessil A80 set to full daylight, but only running the light a few hours...

So heres the crazy plan I have made. These mangroves were grown in freshwater so I will be slowly acclimating them to saltwater. Im a saltwater freak, so where do I have freshwater? I have RO water, but that stuff is completely devoid of nutrients! THE CREEK BEHIND MY HOUSE!!!! I passed the athleticism test by getting over my fence and gathered...
