Mangroves. Anyone use them??

Anyone on here use Mangroves to reduce nitrates?

Any Benefits?

as far as benefit, they're not as efficient or simple as chaeto. But they do look cool!

I agree, i have 3 in my sump in January and they finally started to bloom about two weeks ago... whether they are doing anything, im not sure, but I do like the way they look!

Cool. Think ill stick with Cheato in the sump may get some for in tank though like the way they look alot.

I keep them in my 60 gallon reef with cheato but you need alot for them I have about 80 of them planted in my sump with a dsb under 2 29 watt 6700k bulbs they grow pretty fast the file fish I have in the sump loves the mangrove forest

I started using Red Mangroves about 4 months ago. I have about 12+ in my sump which are taking off real well now. I know that there has been a lot of debate about the benefits of mangroves so I decided to try them out and create what I call an "alternative approach" tank. So far so good and the results have been noticable. Great article and studies, kinda speaks for itself:yes:
One thing I notice in my experience is that my mangroves have done much better if I raise the height of the roots closer to the surface, typically with the use of rock or styrofoam. Slowly dropping the level of roots as they take off and show new fresh root growth.

I think that they look awesome... I have seen a tank room setup that had them and it was a really neat looking sump. I have heard that they are not as efficient as the macro algae route, but I don't have alot of experience myself.
