Glenn gave me a mantis shrimp(on purpose!!!) about 2 weeks ago. She had an egg ball and they are starting to hatch.

1. What should I use to feed them, they are staying in a barnacle and are currently hatching I will be able to spot feed them and intend on KEEPING THEM ALIVE!

2. If there are survivors, does anyone want one? They will need to be kept in an acrylic aquarium or a sump and in a species only environment. She is very entertaining. These are very smart animals. She see's me, and comes out for food. If she see's my wife, she grabs the remaining eggs and gets in protect mode.

If you want one, post in here and when the time comes You can come get them. There looks to be ~100 healthy eggs and around 10 have hatched.

Check this out gives some good info on the rearing of the babies

Dont know about the fluval, but the bio cube is glass.

Just know that eventually an adult could "bust" out. I know few people that keep them in glass, but that is risky business.

If the glass is 1/4" or thinner they can break it.

Let me see if I still have a small acrylic tank at my folks I may take one
I will even pay for one. If I still have the acrylic ten gallon that is.

Looks like I wont be able to rear these.

Yeah once they are huge. It's really rare to have one break it. From what I read anyway

It is possible if you have the time and alot of separations in a tank. But if you just feed rotis you might get obe or two to live through the cannabalism.

Even though you cannot raise the larvae it is still extremely fascinating. I am glad I did not pitch her. I remember some years back seeing a peacock mantis at Under the Wave (I think that is what it was called). The way it moved was so unique. I could not stop watching it.

Dylan, we have brine shrimp nauplii hatched daily here available, if you ever you want to give it a try.

I'm glad you didnt pitch her as well!! One man's pest is another's treasure

I'll try to swing by today, I am a bit busy, so if not today then tomorrow. They are quickly hatching. I may try to keep 10 or so.

On RC, it says I can keep them in 3-4oz cups and do daily water changes. Does that seem adequate until they are non planktonic?

No worries, we hatch the brine daily. This enables the nauplii to have the egg yolk sac, which is exceptionally nutritious.

Regarding rearing the shrimp, that seems plausible. There is more to it that we can discuss here, though.

Picked up the newly hatched brine. I had removed a few babies, and the masses were with the mom. The babies accepted the food! I saw them flicking around and grabbing the brine and I assume Eatin it.

If anyone would like to raise one from a larvae, let me know! It is fairly easy, just needs consistence.

If I could wean then on to eating frozen, and could meet in atl one day, would you be interested?

I've currently got 4 cups with two in each, the other ~100 are still with mom in the barnacle, so I'll give you 2 if I can make things happen.

How long will baby brine keep
I could setup a hatchery in a ten gallon. Hmmmm. Youve got me thinking
