Whats everyone's thoughts on these lights? Are they worth it or do they even really work for coral growth?

From what I understand they use 1w LEDs as opposed to 3w, I'm not quite sure how that effects light penetration or PAR, personally I'd go with something with 3w

I use the "Reef Capable" fixture over my planted tank and it works great for the freshwater tank. Not so much for coral growth however. How much we're you looking to spend? If it was around $200 then just get the ReefBreeders led fixture. I have one and I love the thing!

What are you looking to put it over? That way we can give you some suggestions for your tank size?

Its a jbj 28 nano. Its got the stock pc lights, and I want to grow some sps this time around so I'm looking for a different lighting source.

id avoid the marineland leds. they should just stick with what they know like building tanks. if you want a good prefab fixture thats not gonna break the bank look into the ai sols and if you dont mind spending a little more check out the vega and if you want the best look at the radions but be prepared for sticker shock with those lol. but if youre handy and wouldnt mind building a fixture go to rapidled.com they have kits for aio cubes like yours

Bump..I sorry...What about the marinelands on a small 10gal frag tank. At this moment I can not afford the better leds...This tank has been without lights for a couple of days. Was going to get these tomorrow. thanks Mike

We use the same fixture over my wife's planted gold fish tank.

I'd check out the rapidled retrofit kit, you can get solderless if you want to make it really easy, if you want to do sunrise/sunset and timer add in a boostled typhon controller. I just put together a rapidled kit with typhon controller and would recommend it if you have basic DIY skills

I will defiantly check them out.

The heatsinks come drilled and tapped for 24 LEDs but the kits only come with 20 LEDs, which gives you the option to add in a few extra UV or cyan or red for a wider spectrum. You can also specify which colors you want in the kit

You might be able to do an AI nano as well, don't quote me on that as I'm not familiar with the 28 cube or the AI nano :)

Thses were the ones I was going to purchase to use on a ten gallon frag tank...most of the frags are LPS and just a couple of SPS that I plan on gluing at the top of the tank.

Just looked at the marineland led fixture again and it only comes with 21 1w LEDs, only 3 of which are blue, I can't say I'd recommend it for the price, better of going with a 70w MH or a 12 led light with 3w leds

How expensive are the kits or already builts? I'm a reefer on a budget lol.

For that you'd be better off just going with an actinic supplement kit from rapid led I think it uses 9 LEDs and would be perfect over a 10 gallon the way you're wanting to set it up

Probably not as cheap as the marineland but if your not in a rush it'd be worth the extra money. I assume you we're looking at

Thanks Picoreefguy...I booked marked it and will have to start saving my pennies
