i am going to hook up my sump hopefully this weekend. its a 55 gallon with 29 gallon sump, will the maxi be strong enought?
 
Cheaper isn't always the route to go.. unless you get the expensive item used then that would be a good save... but agreed with dawgdude..

Yeah and i always seem to find the hobbys that cost a lot of money, i think my cheapest hobbby is sleeping, and that just cost me 3grands for my cali king bed

Should have settled for a "yard sale race car bed", and a nicer tank....

To your question, see if you can find a used Mag 3 or Mag 5. Baring that, Home Depot, Kmart, and Wal-Mart sell inexpensive fountain pumps. Just make sure what ever you buy gives you enough head.

GPH isn't all that important on your sized tank...
 
Put up an add in the want to buy section. I am sure someone has one laying around for you. Save some coin that way

I am trding for an overflow box thurday but no one has stepped up with a pump yet
 
Go to Keen Reef. They have these Eco pumps that I use for making water. They're quiet and I think they have a couple of them rated high enough for you. I bought a 700 gph one for $38. Not sure about how it handles head height though.
