members only forums?

Thanks guys. I truly enjoy participating on these boards and I'm truly considering becoming a member. I'm just trying to figure out all the benefits that come with the membership. I didn't realize there was a "members only" board until last night when I was looking around.

Does the 10% discount count towards equipment? I'm curious, because one reason I'm holding on on the membership is because I can use the $30 for so many other things. However, if the 10% discount applies to equipment, then I'll make it back in no time.

Edit: I don't mean this to come off the wrong way, but it seems like some members are more responsive/willing to help other members vs. non-members. I will say that this doesn't apply to most members, but it's an impression that I get from a few.

John, I am in the same boat you are in. Started my tank in July not know just how much equipment I would want/need. It hurts every time I buy something. But, I will say this, the membership fee was the the best purchase I have made since getting into saltwater. Yes, many members will treat you the same either way but there is just a little extra that comes with being a member. People know you care enough about the hobby to spend the money on membership so they want to see you succeed that much more. It has amazed me what people have done for me in the few months I have been here. Those are just my thoughts but I wanted to share them with you.

There is an ARC Member Discussion forum that is Member's only. Mostly, what is discussed there are Club Matters, and has no effect on Registered Users. It is a place where internal business is conducted that really has no place on a public forum. An example would be if there is a proposal on the table to change a Club Bylaw that requires Member vote and/or discussion. A thread for that would be placed there.

Also, there is a Member's only FS Forum, but that does not get a lot of use, IME. Members can post there, but to confine it to Member's only is to limit your potential buyers, so most Memberss use the regular FS Forum, or post in both.

I can't speak for everybody... but I use the members' only FS forums. If I am giving away freebies, it goes there and then a few days later to the general FS forums. Really good deals get a head start in the members' forum too.
