unless we ran out I believe we have some. I normally 1 to blame alkalinity swings when coral start dying, especially SPS

TDS is reading 0 on the output. No algae what so ever. Have not tested for phosphates in a long time but I would expect algae if that were a problem.

Another rid bit. May be unrelated. Had big aptasia problem for several months. Added a Aptasia eating file fish but saw little improvement. I had been doing good rounds of AptasiaX but it would come back in a week. After adding the file I did one more round of AptasiaX and nothing came back. I figured the file was getting the little ones but just not touching the big ones. That was about the time the backslide started but I have not used any aptasiaX in maybe 5 or 6 weeks.

Both clams are looking great.

Wish I went that way to work. May hit up the LFS in Kennisaw, Woodstock and Canton on the way home tomorrow.

Have you dipped any of the dead colonies to look for pests? It's odd that it's SPS and softies, but the clams are fine. Hmmmm.
And sorry for the troubles.

May give that a try but that still wouldn't explain 1700 on mag. Thanks for the idea though and the good thoughts.

Well I'll be dipped in .... A very good friend just reached out to me and may have a three pump bubble magnus to give me. Amazing the good people you meet in this life. :-)

like jeff said always mix your salt before use. i completely forgot about that but at seachems factory they had said thet they will take the begining and ends of a batch of salinity and run it through the mixer again just to make sure that any of the stuff that has settled gets put back into the mix before they do their batch analysis

Didn't know that. Going to have to give that a try. Also going to run complete test on the next batch of water I mix before it goes in the tank.

I would:

retest mag knowing that it might not be the issue as we have had many a reefer with mag that high for short periods of time (4-6 weeks) getting rid of Bryopsis.

Switch to IO or Rc and do some massive (biggest you can) water changes weekly for a few months.

Change Carbon & GFO weekly.

Thanks Ralph. I don't run GFO but will change the carbon for sure. May pick up some RC on the way home tomorrow.

it just would be cost effective with your current salt........just saying....

time to try GFO if you have SPS, or........

i think it would be a good idea to run gfo even if it is just for a little while because if im not mistaken it also helps pull out silicates and hevay metals as does phosgaurd. not sure if mag would qualify as a 'heavy" metal but its worth looking into

I have ignored everything to do with GFO to this point. Guess I should do some reading. Any good articles you guys know of that Gide a good explanation of how and why?

SPS 90% rule need extremely low phates <0.03

don't keep sps if you don't want the hassel or expense.
