Mixing salt.

Nope. LOL. Reef Crystals may be it for me. Y'all are spoiled being so close to multiple LFS's (outside of Petco and PetSmart). We have 3 here in Montgomery, and they are very small. I'm so jealous...

I use a heater as well as a powerhead. I have too as my mixing station is in my garage and gets chilly. If you dont have a heater how would you ever get the water up to temp for a change?

I drain a large portion of my sump, and my new water actually has to cool down to temp. So I know its just at the right temp matching the rest of the sump and tank. Takes a few minutes but i know its just right.

Edit: ooops sorry i got this in the wrong place!!

I'm getting mixed reviews on the heater. I would put a heater in the day before the water change to get it up to temp.

Fill the mixing container right after a water change. Run a powerless and heater in it all week. Add salt a couple hours before the next water change. Repeat. Works fine for me.

Right now my mixing station is in my laundry room, so the temperature is pretty close to the temp of my tank. Didn't think about if I were mixing water in a garage or outside. I see the point of heaters in that case... Good point for anyone reading this thread. Livestock does not like temp swings. Water changes are stressful enough without a big temp swing...

Do you think that I should keep it the same temp of the tank or maybe a lower temp?

input without reading the others...sorry lazy. :)
yes mix is good, powerhead and heater. No need to keep it at 78 or whatever your tank is, but 68* water will not make your corals happy (if you're doing significant changes at least). I've got a 15w betta heater in my 5g change bucket and it keeps the temp at 75 or so without using too much power and my corals and such do much better with changes from warmer water.

I put a sediment filter on my powerhead and that removes all precipitate that likes to develop with over mixed water.

Ok I need some help. The valve that I made at the bottom is starting to leak. It is just a hole with two PVC fittings threaded with silicone around it. What other way can I do this?
