If you have build threads or picks of your mixing stations I'd love to see them...

Also what kind of quality holding containers do you recommend? I'm looking for 20-30 gal square containers.

this thread may help ;)

i think most use brute containers. home depot sells 20g or 30g cans that i plan on using for my setup

Heres mine its not fancy but works well. I have 2 - 55 gallon NEW drums I have a hose that comes off my ro/di unit with a splitter. I fill up my RO drum then switch to my Salt and when I get ready to mix I add my salt and I have a hose with a Mag 7 in the drum I let it run for 12 hours and then I use the hose to either pump it into 5 gallon or 2 1/2 gallon pails and I use as needed.
You can even get a bigger pump and a longer hose and fill right to the tank.(or sump)
I do keep a heater in each one and I have a float shut off to cut off when they are full.
Float valves important because you will forget and flood your space if your not really careful

I plan on something like this. pretty simple. RODI on the left, salt mix on the right. you can pump some RODI of it out for top off or pump it to the other container to mix salt then out again to the tank

here's another with less piping

the 2nd image is pretty much the exact design I drew up today at my desk... Only question is I can't understand why the RODI container would need the PVC running back into the top of the container?? I know on the salt container you need it because you will run the external pump to mix the saltwater.. But why would you need it on the RODI side?

Anyway, I gotta check the measurements on those Brutes because I need to fit this into a closet in my tank room. Luckily the closet backs up to a bathroom so i could plum the RODI easily.

i've read that some people circulate their RODI, not sure.

It looks like these are the 20g brutes. dimensions are roughly 19.5x19.5x23 and $20ea

Not trying to hijack the thread but how long can you store RO before "bad stuff" starts growing

Very similar to my setup below w/ (2) 45g brute cans. Generally, one can is salt water and the other RODI, but many times I mix both cans because I need 90g of new salt water. That's why I have a return on both containers. I don't recirculate RODI, but I need it for when I'm mixing salt in both cans. My actual ATO container (15g) is way up high ... you can barely see the bottom of it in the top of the pic just left of my skimmer.

The only other change I have is that you see the pvc going up and back from the mixing station. It is hard plumbed into the side of my refugium. You can see it entering just below my pumps (ball valve closed in the pic). I also drain the tank from that same ball valve into the utility sink. You can see a 45 deg pipe sticking into the sink on the left side. What you can't see are the ball valves under the refugium that control if I'm filling or draining. A little over-kill, but I wanted to make sure I made water changes as simple as possible ... no excuses for tank neglect.

I also have mine setup in a recirculate style on both cans, same reasoning; mix more salt at once if u choose to.

I'm only running one container from the tractor supply store right now. A simple powerhead does the mixing for me. I just turn it on before I go to work or sleep, and it's well mixed a couple hours later...

What the heck is going on with photobucket?!?!?!?!?

JJOcean: AWESOME SETUP!!!

This is mine. I can drain water from the tank and/or sump and then pump the new water back up to the display once I'm done with maintenance.

I'm not really sure if there's a way to link to a specific post within a thread, but click the link below and scroll down to post #36.
