Monti-Cap growing on overflow

I'm looking for opinions through experience. I have a large monti-cap that is getting close to touching my overflow. I am trying to decide if I want it to grow on that or not. I know how with some corals (gsp, xenia, etc) once it starts to grow on a surface it can be game over and you'll never get rid of it. I like the natural look of a full reef, but just wondering if monti-cap on the overflow can cause problems down the road or if it would be difficult to remove.

From what I gather it would scrap off pretty easily but I would have to be mindful of wherever it starts to shade out areas.

Most people I know would let it grow as long as it doesn't cover the overflow. It can't hurt anything and it's easily broken away should it start to provide issues. I'm with you...go natural!

I'm not sure how your setup is, but IMO and experience I would say don't do it. It isn't as easy as you think to remove the monti from the overflow after it starts really encrusting. Also if you have any rocks near the over flow you have to make sure that it never bridges over otherwise that's another issue to deal with. Mine started to grow in the "grill" of the box and I had to go through and punch it out. It'd be easier to give better advice if you could post a picture of your setup and where you planned to place it.

its not too bad when it grows on surfaces i have some growing on my back glass and it has grown to the surface and stopped. i fragged it one time and half of it that was on the glass came off in a nice sheet when i was just trying to break off a peice that was growing out and away from the glass lol. i also have some growing on my overflow box and have moved it a couple times with now problems its probably cause both of those surfaces are very smooth. not sure how it would do on the type of plastic overflows are made of though
