So I just discovered I have montipora eatting nudis. I went ahead and dipped the montis I have while I wait for my chance to free up my hospital tank; while dipping I killed off maybe around 20. I did notice maybe 5 more in various places in the tank usually at the bases of some sort of hard coral. So at this point im aware that I have an outbreak of these little buggers and I will have my attempt at keeping all montis out of my tank for a few weeks while I treat and observe; but are there any other methods im missing? Are yellow coris wrasse enough if I continually dip as I see them? Any ideas appreciated, couple of rough weeks incoming.

Edit: I really like the yellow coris as well, thats why I threw that in there; only reason I dont already have one is because im nervous about my crushed coral sand.

Edit: Heres a picture of 2-3 of them, sorry I dont have a camera better than 8mp.

Most articles I have read say that wrasses, etc., help to 'control' them, but you will have to dip everything and isolate your display for weeks to eradicate them.

I have no first hand experience with these little monsters, thank goodness!

Lesson to self: dip ALL corals you get!

Lesson to self: dipping all corals you get wont do the trick. All of these and the vast majority of my past corals all were coralRx'd. These buggers had to of came in as eggs; all I have are a ton of babies and the dip doesnt kill eggs.

Wow!

BTW,
that comment wasn't directed at you, but to myself.

I have a Richmond's wrasse in my frag tank to (hopefully) eat anything like this.

I will be looking into these more. There must be some way to prevent them.

Thanks, and I wasn't trying to be mean or anything lol I was actually going to post the same exact thing right after I had already hit submit.

melanarus wrasse has kept mine at bay but I think they are probably still in the tank. they just don't do any harm.

Yellow coris wrasse is known to eat them along with blue leg hermit crabs, I'd break off any area that looks to have eggs on and toss it. I've delt with these monsters and must say they were the worest pest I've come across

Guerry, are you saying the wrasse eats the hermit crabs or that the hermit crabs also eat the nudis?

Im curious too :P, as I do have many many blue legged

Edit: Im also curious, do leopards and other colorful wrasses hunt nudis? Ive have a black leopard in the past and all he did was search for copes and other stuff; not sure on nudis tho.

AquamanSE is 100% right here for me these guys helped in my battle but it was a long one, I'd have to say 9 months or better and I lost some really large pieces along the way. I did the dripping which helps but won't kill the eggs, I used tooth brush to scrub while dippig also. At this point I feel I've won the battle but if I see a spot that I even think is bad I'll snap it off and throw it away! Even though I'm 99.9% sure the're all gone I won't sell any monies from my system giving a chance that one egg could ever get into some one else system. I feel your pain believe me and even thow I have a good idea where mine came from I can't prove so I'll just keep that to myself. Here's a picture of just one of the collonies I lost

Im just thankful that they are monti type and not just something thats going to whipe out my whole collection. At the moment im thinking I will try to setup a smaller iso tank for a few months so i can keep these montis; my idaho grape is doing insanely awesome and I cant bring myself to toss em.
