Anyone have any experience with these lights? I bought some. Still waiting for shipment.I run my main lighting source on a timer for 10 hrs or so. I was going to run these during the "off hours". I am a relative rookie to the salty scene. Made the jump from fresh in November. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have only been registered with ARC for like a week...and everyone has provided me with a lot of information. Guess I will upgrate to a full blown membership.
Thanks everyone!

welcome, I have no experience with these moon lights, but please keep us updated on your purchase.

I had them..could not figure out how to mount them to the light system I use...Gave them to Simon Kruger..Think he tossed them..They worked great..If you can mount them in your system..

I was just going to mount them to peice oak 1x2 or something. I dont think I can mount them to my lights either. Hard to tell by the pictures. I'll just have to wait and see.

Thanks!

I have these http://cgi.ebay.com/AQUARIUM-LED-BLUE-MOON-ODYSSEA-42-SUBMERSIBLE-LIGHT_W0QQitemZ270219215772QQihZ017QQcategoryZ46314QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem">http://cgi.ebay.com/AQUARIUM-LED-BLUE-MOON-ODYSSEA-42-SUBMERSIBLE-LIGHT_W0QQitemZ270219215772QQihZ017QQcategoryZ46314QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem</a>

I love it! it comes with suction cups for submerged use and I used the clips and took the cups off and mounted them in my canopy. If I had any pics I would post them sorry. my nieghbor has a tank also and He wishes he had my lights...

good luck JJ

I actually have one of those Odyssea strips as well. But there are only about 4 bulbs still burning...so I looked into these.
Thanks!!!

Anyone know if those Odyssea strips is serviceable? Or should I just trash it?
Thanks!

that's way too many lights for a moon light, IMO. fishes are sensitive to the blue spectrum and considering how many lights you're using as "night time" lighting, to them, it'd seem like early morning/late afternoon all night long.

these would be better served as late night mode lights. if you want lights to observe your tank at nights, choose red. most marine inverts and fishes cannot see the spectrum.

Ok...Hump...you gotta help me out here. Im a rookie. When you say too many lights. The one I ordered from the guy is a 15led for a 48" 75gal tank, not the 20led in the link. Is that better...or is this still not correct lighting for night time? Do I NEED night lighting or is this just something I turn on to oooh and aaah over?

it's more or less for oooohs and ahhhs. yeah, it's fun to look at what's going on at nights because a lot of inverts are active at nights.

you have to imagine how dark it is during night times in the reef. outside of 1 moon that lights the entire sea, where else is there a source of light?

as a rule of thumb, i've heard that 1 LED per 24" is good enough. i've also read that the blue spectrum is the most sensitive to a fish's eye so it'll mess with their sleeping patterns.

in the future, i'll look into installing some moon lights but i'll probably use 1 dimmable white LED and 1 red LED. White being late late night and red for my viewing pleasure only.

I have 3 in mine....I would say no....it will make your corals look great ant night...Not bother anything.....You do not need them at all...It more, that looks cool....

No real NEED for night light unless you are going to try a duplicate the lunar phases. This "could" stimulate spawning or other stuff.

Bass, How long have you had your moon light? I am a rookie too! where are you at in L'ville, I am near Tribble Mill Park.

JJ

Thanks Hump! Preshiate the help!

Washowi...You have 3 what in yours? Blue Leds? You would say no ... dont need them?

I was origionally attracted to them just for the asthestics. It does appear to look really cool. Then I had read where the fish actually benefit from some consistent night lighting. I was wondering if these would fit the bill. From what you guys are telling me...that does not appear to be the case.

Dog...I havent even got them yet. They are due any time now...maybe in the mail now. I just wanted to throw it out to the experts for some sound advice.

I am on the Lilburn side of Lawrenceville. Around the River Drive 5 forks area.

I have 2 blue and one white...Basically night lights..You do not need them at all..But they are fun and make you tank look great when the lights are off and in the night...

Night lights are not needed at all...my other 2 tanks don't have any.

Here's my moonlights: http://www.ijdmtoy.com/webpage/products/Strip.htm">http://www.ijdmtoy.com/webpage/products/Strip.htm</a>
Got it on eBay from that seller. Just connect to a 12V wall adapter.

I posted this last spring sometime and have been using them since. They are great, it uses a 28 day lunar cycle. When the moon is full they are pretty bright and during a new moon its almost dark. There is a little light since the stars provide some light at sea during a new moon.

i use to live on Huff Dr.(where oak road crosses the rail road). I thought you said you had one and only 4 LEDs left working. How long have you had the Odyssea fixture?

Haninja...those are some sweet moon lights. I wish I had seen those first. I like the low profile strip. Much easier to install. This ebay purchase I made will require a little creativity to put together.

Jefft...Controller is a great idea. For some reason I cant pull up all the images and details of the listing. Did the controller include lights?

Dog...Thats crazy man. My house is in the back of a subdivision behind Conamara on River Drive. Got 3 acres bordered by Sweetwater Creek ...and the railroad tracks.

I actually picked up this 75 bowfront used. The Odyssey moonlight was included. Only a few bulbs working. Looks like a cool light and all, but I havent run across anyone who can replace the bulbs.

I have not tried to open mine up because it still works... I have had it for about 3 months and it runs from 9P until 10A and no trouble so far. If you are just going to trash it I would love to try and take it apart. If I can get it apart I thnink I can replace then LEDs if i can find replacements.

Thanks Dog! I have considered disecting it myself. I really have not done much research on replacements...just a bit of Googling. If I decie to trash it...its yours man!

I did get my eBay moonlights last night.I still have to mount them somehow. But just holding them across the tank? OOOOH...AHHHH...pretty cool!!
Still like Haninja's better.
