I need to say thanks to Jorge at Pure Reef. Great service and nice livestock. Jorge hand picked each one and had several to choose from.

The fish is doing great. I have him in qt at the moment. He will be there for the next several weeks.

Thanks again Pure Reed!!

Awesome! arguably my favorite fish, keep us up to date. Anyone with success with one of these I idolize :)

I had one for almost two years and by far one of the most difficult fish to keep. Let me know how it goes and if you have any questions. Also I'd be interested to see what type of coral he is going to take a liking so be prepared.

I have several types of coral in my qt tank to test out. I put a nice acan in there and so far nothing.

To be honest, I love the fish for not only the looks but the challenge. I read many articles and books on this fish before I pulled the trigger. Jorge has been in business for more longer than most, so I trusted that he would find a good healthy one. I would never by this fish online or unseen. You MUST see them eating at the store or leave them there. Mine is eating large pieces of Larry's food. I also have 40 lbs of spongy live rock that has been in my sump for him to pick off during the day. I have been adding it to the qt as needed.

Why was your so hard? What size tank did you have him in?

SCORE!!! Don't know how I missed this thread. Nice fish, Man. Keep us posted. I too heard they were PITAs to keep...

Something along the line of they would be doing just fine for a year or two once the owner was able to get them eating, then just die for no reason at all...

He's in capable hands. Best of luck!!! I see you are QT'ing as well. Good on ya!!!

Sounds like your on the right track with everything, verifying eating, coral, qt etc....I think you have potential for great success with the steps you are taking. Its refreshing to see someone do extensive homework on these guys prior to purchasing.

As far as difficulty, its just the same as noted, once they eat and the streamer is healthy, you should be fine. Its just one of those fish that are fine for a long time then poof....they die. Good Luck and keep us updated..

And I am not going to discuss Jorge's business practice so we ll just leave that be.

Wait. What are you getting at? I have been to many lfs and Pure Reef is in the top 1. Jorge explained this fish to me well. He brought it in because I asked him. That is called good business practice. If I'm going off the deep end then sorry. But I can't let a comment like that go unchecked.

I was over there today but I didn't take any pictures...lol
I guarantee he will love taking that meat off the shell

the system he is doing this in is over 600 gallons, and all the fish goble it up . but the idol does get in there to get his share. I wouldn't really think the water would get that dirty, you're just feeding him
