MP40 etc.

The regular es models I believe are non wireless so they just run as one unit instead of multiples. You want to get the wireless models if you want to use most of the options that the pumps have. Other then that, the only difference between the different models is how much flow it can push. Mp10's does around 1400 gph, mp40 around 3200 gph and I'm not sure about the mp60's. :(

Not right... the W is older than the wES, so there is no "regular" ES. ES is EcoSmart, the newest model.

W's are wireless, WES are wireless EcoSmart. ES pumps do the "nutrient export mode" that you hear mentioned. It is basically one more mode that creates a lot of turbulence to suspend stuff in the water column so it can be filtered/skimmed out.

A lot of people state that you must have 3 to use that mode; not true. It works with two... it just works OPTIMALLY with 3 or more.

I stand corrected. But pretty much what I was trying to get to. I also only run two in my tank and it does just fine. Although I do want a third one. :)

There are 1st (blue driver) and 2nd generation (white driver) W models... I never looked into the differences because when I found a set for a good deal they were the later ones anyway. Of course, as is typical for me, about 12 hours later the wES models came out... I am the definition of immediate obsolescence. :D

I think the difference between the Blue & 2G boxes is mainly Wireless sync. and easier to program..

the 2G & 3G(ES) differences are primarily EXTREME ease of programming & the ES modes are (of course) only available on ES (3G)..

and the MP20 was scrapped when 2G went to 3G...

SooOooOo much info on these things!! Just get the biggest and baddest vortech out there and slap it in your tank!! Cant go wrong with that! :D

Not too far from true! Sure, you can go too big if you try, but as an example I've got two 40s in my 90g tank. They are turned pretty far down (the max they run at any point in the day is 50%), but I'm able to take advantage of the sync/anti-sync to get more random flow.
"Night" mode is 20%, morning/evening is lagoon @ 40% and day is reef crest @ 50%.

Now, I wouldn't advocate buying two in this case (I bought them for the 210 and decided to use them while it's going together)... one would be plenty.

Wow that's all you run them at? I blast mines at 70-80% at any even time of day. Then I have it barely running at night. I've been doing so more months and my SPS loves it.
