ok... so I have 2 MP40w ES drivers and ONE MP40w on my 120g (4x2x2)....

This means that the 2 will work in sync and the third can't do the new modes.

$100 upgrade is holding me back from it...

Is it worth it??

Anyone actually USE these modes?

THanks,
B

If I understand correctly, the WES models will only use the new modes if they are only paired with other WES drivers, meaning that you will have to run the W completely independently of the other two.

A few people seem to love the Eco Smart modes, and I would probably do the upgrade if I had a third one... but with only two I can't really take full advantage.

It's worth it!! Ive had vortechs on my last 3 tanks and I can't imagine my future tanks without them. Having them able to sync with each other will allow them to work together more efficient. The ecosmart mode works best with 3 pumps synced together so if you already have two of them sync then you should go ahead and get the third one. You'll be glad you did.

maybe i wasn't clear.. i have 2x MP40 W ES mods... the third is a 2nd gen W.. not es...

only thing i need to have 3 wes is to upgrade the third.

You were clear. I may be wrong, but I think it breaks down this way:

You can sync all 3 together but none of the three will operate in ES mode. You can run the W seperate from the ES' and then you can operate the ES' in ES mode, but your W will have to be independent and have its own mode programming (and if you run them off an Apex WXM module by chance, the W can't be on it or else the first sentence applies).

thats one way to do it.... so yea...

HOWEVER.. the W WILL sync with the ES mods. It just isn't capable of the few extra ES modes.

As long as the ES's are running one of the programs the W has there isn't an issue and it runs like you have 3 W's.

Thats what I've been doing the last 6 months or so... I'm just wondering if the $100 upgrade is worth it JUST to get the few extra ES modes that you need 3 mp40s to run.

Yep... sorry if I was unclear. :D
All I was trying to point out (in my longwinded way) is that if you sync them all together, not even the ES models will be able to use the new modes (which obviously you understand). If I had two ES' and one W, I'd have ordered the driver yesterday, FWIW.
