Calling all MRC experts!

I got this unit from a member on RC a while back and just setting it up.

My primary question...does this look right???

More detailed questions to follow:)

Also included was this thing.
I assume it is some type of probe holder...but I cant quite figure it out.
Do I need this?

The plumbing is wrong...
The feed pump is way too big?!

Edit: And I wouldn't bet money that this is a MRC one - they usually engrave their name in the base...

Edit: Do the lids have the same size?
If so, switch them around...

I thought a MagII was overkill too. But I think that's what is recommended by MRC and others here have confirmed its ok. I'll try to find the thread later. I'm on my phone now.
Hmm...

MRC is engraved in the base and the lids are the same size.

My previous feed pump thread.

Someone please clarify.

There is no engraving on the base...but both lids say MRC.
I guess there is always a risk when you buy from folks on RC you dont know. Unfortunately I tend to trust people and expect honesty (a flaw I will always have).
I purchased this as an MRC CR-4. At this point dont really care who makes it...i just want to get it up and running.

Any suggestions and input most welcome.

Bring it in to SEA and let them verify if in fact it's an MRC. Than just pay them to make it work , save the headache ( assuming that ita MRC and they are willing)

Edit: Fwiw, the MRC engraving looks legit. Or someone spent a lot of time and money to make a fake.

Is it that important to verify the brand?
Who is SEA?

Thanks man!

One of our sponsors. Raj and Jeremy's store. They are located in johns creek In the center next to St. Ives country club.

Edit: From what i heard MRC is just a so-so brand (*inserts sarcasm) lol. MRC is one if the best, and verifying the brand is kinda nice. It provides a assurance of quality and in turn justifies the amount of money you probably spent.

Good point.
Actually Im closer to the MRC office. Ive met Raj up there a couple of times.
Was actually hoping he would chime in here. :D

I just didn't see the logo, no sweat here.

Swap the lids, the recirc pump records within the same chamber, then drains into the smaller one for degassing...

YES... I see now it in the diagram.

Lids swapped!

Edit: Lets move to the PH probe. This fitting its in came with the set up.

Any thoughts on other options here? Seems like there would be a better way. By better I really mean...cleaner. Looks a little sloppy.

All ears!

The probe holder is def DIY, but is located in the right spot.
MRC can drill the lid in Chamber1 for a cleaner looking probe holder - but this works just as well.

I have a MRC CR-4. I believe what you have is a MRC CR-4. Only my lids have MRC engraved in them. There is just a MRC sticker on the base that seems like it could easily come off with use and water spills.

The odd parts are that you don't have schedule 80 connections with pipe out from the pump to the lid and the in-line probe holder. My probe holder and all the ones I've seen have it drilled through the 1st chamber lid. Yours was probably an add after the fact - easiest way to add it. The recirc pumps are fairly large - Mag2 is correct. I personally have the blueline.

Not sure what the little cylinder part is. I have the spray bar upgrade, but that isn't what you have pictured.

As Rob said, your lids need to be switched. Plumbing not right as-is.

Thanks for the input.
Yeah... I thought about plumbing the recirc pump with sch 80 and loose the tubing. Good call.

Drill the first chamber. I like it. Sounds pretty simple though. Do I really need someone to do this? Not familiar with the fitting that would go there though.

What are your thoughts on the feed pump?
Im using a Mag II.

Your feed pump is probably too large. I originally had mine fed off a dialed back manifold and the o-ring seal leaked on the CR-4. A maxijet 1200 or similar rated pump is what you need. After talking with them about the leaks – that’s what they spec’d. No issues since.

Was afraid of that.
No biggie though. Can always use a pump for something and can use this as a spare recirc pump!

That's not a CR-4. Nor an MRC. It looks like a knock off cr-dual nano clone, using MRC lids. The two chambers should have different size lids to match the different cylinders.

Nonetheless, looks like you have it figured out now.

YEA!
Thanks Raj! Now I have some expert confirmation.
I looked up some specs and took some measurements. This is indeed much closer to an MRC Nano than an CR-4. Which means its too small for my system anyway.
(Probably should have done that to begin with )
If not for the size I would give it a try anyway.
But I think I will go shopping for a larger one and post this for sale to someone with smaller needs.

Thanks!!

Be sure you get a real MRC this time! :D
