can mushrooms survive in a sump after a long period of time without light???

trying to decide if i had one hitchhiking on the bottom of a rock. it's a really pretty mushroom but i can't decide if it's actually a mushroom or something i've never seen before. it's a really vivid orange swirl

They can certainly survive, but they usually lose their color. Do you have a picture?

they can, i threw some in my sump months ago without no light...totally forgot about them. Then when i upgraded and took the system apart, they were all there - small and dark, but alive!

yeah that's the weird thing. and it's on a stalk just like u see when a mushroom closes up or extends really far out.

it doesn't seem to have holes like i think of when ithnk of a sponge. i've only seen a few tiny ones up close though so i don't know what to look for. i'll take a picture tomorrow i guess, not sure how i'm gonna even get my camera by there honestly.
